About Me

My name is Luke Stensland. I was born and raised in Estes Park. Ever since I was a young kid I have been interested in fire. I remember watching the helicopters filling their water over Lake Estes during the Woodland Heights fire, the smoke blocking out the sky during the 2012 Fern Lake Fire, and most recently being evacuated from the 2020 Camron Peak and East Troublesome fires. Apart from my interest in fire, I am an avid hiker, 3D printing enthusiast, computer builder, and F1 fan.

Wildfire Training and Skills

My training includes National Wildland Coordinating Groups S130 and S190, FEMA I100 and I700, and Nols WFR. The S130 is Wildland Fire Training. I learned how to deploy fire shelters, build fire lines, and evaluate structures before a wildfire. With S190 I learned about wildland fire behavior including the weather's impact on wildland fire, predicting fire movements, and general fire behavior. Both FEMA certifications are related to understanding the incident command structure. The NOLS Wilderness First Responder is a wilderness medical program teaching wilderness medical care.

Why I started a fire mitigation business

After seeing major wildfires almost devastate my town, I wanted to do what I could to protect the community. While there are currently several tree services, there is a great need for more fundamental fire mitigation. Stensland Services focuses on providing these basic services thereby creating a safer, more defendable, and resilient community.
